Ich gebe den Steinen ein Gesicht

Portraits on sidewalk with chalk-spraypaint next to „Stolpersteine“/Remembrance Stones (2018-today/ongoing)

Giving visibility to individuals who were killed by the National Socialist regime in Germany by spraying portraits with chalk paint next to their „Stolpersteine“.
„Stolpersteine“ are a memorial and remembrance project by Gunter Demnig that began in 1992.
My project started in 2018-2020 in various collaborations and resumed in 2025, there is a total of 28 portraits.
The process involved researching, finding life stories and photos, making stencils from paper cutouts, experimenting with flour, and finally spraying with chalk paint. Depending on the weather, the portraits fade/disappear again after 6 weeks to 2 months.
